Alligator Wrestling
The alligators are the reptiles with the most evolved organization. As a result of their life adaptation, they have a flattened body, and the tail is a little longer than it. This is why alligators are great fighters, and we are not talking about fighting humans. In the rare cases when alligators had to fight other huge animals like sharks or hippopotami, the crocodile was the winner almost any time.
However, maybe the most fascinating stories about Alligator Wrestling can be found in the Cajun legends told by the Swamp people to their kids every night. While the majority of those alligator hunting stories can’t be confirmed, we still believe they have some truths at their bases.
The alligators are living in large groups in China and other tropical areas. In the United States, they were almost extinct until 20 years ago, but the protective measures taken by the Authorities of Louisiana in the Cajun area and the interest of the Swamp people were effective. For a few years, the people understood the dangers, and they reduced alligator hunting to minimum. The results are observed today, and Louisiana can praise itself as the area with the largest population of alligators in the world.
The alligators from the Louisiana area have dimensions from 1.7 meters to over 7 meters. They can be recognized because of their lizard form, strong jaws, and huge teeth. The fourth tooth that is visible for caimans and other crocodiles is not visible for the Cajun alligator, but this doesn’t mean that this animal is not suited for alligator wrestling. In fact, the Swamp people that had the privilege to hunt in other areas of the world stated that alligator hunting is a real hard job, and an amateur has huge chances to become the prey instead of the hunter.
The crocodile needs to depose the pray in a hole, until it softens and decomposes. This is because the alligator likes to eat huge portions of it. Usually, the Cajun alligators swallow the pray without chewing it. A single animal is the meal for several crocodiles. The Swamp people say that the alligator eats fishes and they are swallowing them from the head to the tale, as the scales might hurt their esophagus. The fishes are great bates for alligator hunting, and the Cajun people are using this method often. As the Swamp people are known as the best and maybe the oldest alligator hunting community, many people from different parts of the world are using their techniques. The alligators are also swallowing rocks, pieces of wood, as it is rumored it helps the digestion.
The crocodile species are hunting in different ways. While some of them are lazy, waiting for the pray to come into their mouth, other species are determined and they could follow the same animal for hours. The alligator is one of the fastest hunters of the crocodile family, but he sometimes renounces the prey. Even if he is not the most efficient hunter of the crocodiles, it is still the most dangerous, powerful, and smart.
